Advanced Lighting and User Designed Controls for Modern Classrooms

Course Summary

This presentation examines prior research and a recent Department of Energy-funded study that states teachers, administrators, and other users see lighting as a powerful tool to enhance the learning environment and cue behavior within the classroom setting. A key objective of this presentation is to analyze how peers’ feedback led to the design of a user-friendly interface to meet the objectives of a simple, intuitive, preset control that teachers could modify to suit their goals.

Attendees will:

  • Examine current research and understand efforts to improve the learning environment through lighting.

  • Understand the modern classroom and how users would utilize dynamic lighting to improve the learning environment.

  • Understand the importance of a User Interface and examine how user feedback guided product development.

  • Investigate the cost of this new lighting technology and its implementation.
