Finelite and the California Energy Commission's Public Interest Energy Research project (PIER) have completed the first full school year of data collection for the Integrated Classroom Lighting System (ICLS). The system was designed with input from leaders in the lighting community with the goal to improve lighting quality in the classroom, provide more flexibility for the teacher, and deliver energy savings of 30-50%.
ICLS has been installed in 19 test classrooms throughout the state of California. The data, collected every minute throughout the day for the entire 2003-2004 school year, shows daily energy savings equal at least 35% and averaged 50% over the entire year. Independent surveys show teachers prefer the ICLS system and the added control and flexibility it brings to their classroom. When asked to comment on the system one Dudley Elementary teacher says, "I believe they positively affect our learning environment."
This innovative classroom lighting solution includes layout, pricing, commissioning, and single source warranty and is available for K-12 schools, junior colleges, and universities throughout North America. In addition to lighting recommended by organizations like the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the ICLS system incorporates unique features such as a switch that allows the teacher to change from General to audiovisual lighting and a Quiet Time switch that bypasses the occupancy sensor for use during periods of limited movement.
