Acterra, a well-respected non-profit organization focused on innovative environmental programs in Silicon Valley, recently awarded Finelite its prestigious 2008 Business Environmental Award for best Environmental Enterprise. The award rewards a company, project, or group for developing a new and innovative environmental solution, technology or product.
Finelite’s Integrated Classroom Lighting System (ICLS) helps schools become healthy, energy-efficient environments where teachers can teach effectively and students can develop to their fullest potential. Finelite’s LED-task Personal Lighting system (PLS) is an LED-Task / Low Ambient lighting approach for office lighting that delivers energy savings of over 50%.
“We have long strived to offer products that deliver on the promise of improved lighting using innovative, energy efficient products,” said Terry Clark, Finelite’s CEO. “We’re pleased to be recognized by an organization such as Acterra that has a reputation for implementing environmental programs in Silicon Valley,” said Clark.
Finelite was selected during a rigorous three-month judging process which involved 28 regional environmental and sustainability experts, and recognized June 3, 2008 at a Stanford University reception. Programs under consideration in the Environmental Enterprise category strive to offer unique and innovative products or solutions that provide significant environmental and social benefit that are also technically feasible and commercially viable.
“Acterra’s long history of innovation and partnership enables us to draw on the wisdom and experience of two generations of environmental leaders,” said Laura Teksler, Chair of the awards program. “Finelite is one of the leaders in our business community that is finding solutions that are both environmentally and economically sustainable, and we congratulate them for efforts,” said Teksler.
As an acknowledged industry leader, Finelite forms research partnerships with the California Energy Commission, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, and leading California utilities. Research efforts have received national attention due to rigorous data collection, independent result verification, and fast commercialization into actual energy-efficient, patented products. Finelite’s Integrated Classroom Lighting System and LED-Task Personal Lighting system (PLS) are two key examples.
