Finelite has completed its move to a new facility that will let the company more than double production capacity. As part of its expansion effort, Finelite is adding skilled and entry-level production jobs and is expanding its headquarter staff.
Finelite teamed up with DES Architects + Engineers to develop an office space that is striking, energy efficient and affordable. The design blends layers of light (ambient, accent and task) together with natural light and interior finishes to turn a distribution building into a beautiful, functional office. To the extent that more firms follow this approach and beat Title 24 energy standards by 35%, nearly 1,000 Mega-watts could be removed from the CA grid over the next several years. The state would also be able to meet the reductions outlined in the Governor's recent comprehensive energy plan.
Terry Clark, President of Finelite says, "We wanted to prove that you can develop sustainable designs that blend electric with natural light and create visually exciting office space at only 0.65 watts per square foot. It is affordable and easy to do. We would be pleased to show anyone how we did it."
Converting roll-up dock-doors to windows provided natural light to the office and views of the outdoors. Placing windows on interior walls helped bring daylight from factory skylights into the offices and contributed to providing interesting views through out the office. Special attention was paid to coordinating interior colors and furniture finishes to provide visual interest in a sustainable manner. An interior-wall combines architectural elements with light to create a distinctive visual element that changes as one moves through the space.
The ambient light is achieved using Finelite's high-performance indirect/direct luminaires with a single 3,100 lumen T8 Lamp in cross-section (1.18BF) on 12- to 14-foot row spacing. Accent luminaires also use 3,100-lumen T8 lamps. The lighting delivers 35-50 foot candles on the desk without task lights. Audiovisual control is provided in the training room and conference rooms and occupancy sensors throughout the office ensure wasted energy is minimized.
